Thanks for visiting my blog.

Het zou leuk zijn wanneer je een berichtje achterlaat. :-)
I would appreciate a little message. :-)

Hierbij wil ik Petra bedanken want dankzij haar geweldige site,
www.poohbeers.eigenstart.nl, ben ik met de bouw van mijn poppenhuis begonnen.

Thanks to Petra. Without her nice site, www.poohbeers.eigenstart.nl, I would never been started with my doll house.

Ik probeer de dingen die ik maak zo goed mogelijk te omschrijven maar er kunnen soms typefoutjes in de tekst staan dus controleer van te voren even of het allemaal klopt.

The thing I create I put on my blog. Although I try to make no mistakes it's possible that something went wrong so please check before you make a copy.

Holiday

First a warm welcome to my new followers.

Everything is almost ready. Not my doll house but my own house.
Tomorrow we fly to Portugal for our holiday.  So there will be no updates for 14 days.

When I'm back I'll start trying to marble the stairs again.

How to cut veneer.

Special for Ray:
I wish my explanation and pictures are helping for cutting veneer.
We bought a big oak sheet of veneer to cover all the rooms in the doll house.
The veneer is glued on a layer of plastic or some other material. When you cut the veneer, place the plastic layer on top . This will give more smooth cuts of the veneer.
When you use the paper cutter, always cut in the directions of the grain.
Use a sharp scissor to cut 90 degrees to the grain.
This is based on my experience when cutting the veneer.

For the Versaille floor we needed a lot of little pieces.
By means of mathematics's you can calculate the exact dimensions of the pieces. I have decided for square's of  76.2 mm by 76.2 mm.  By this dimension the pattern on the whole floor looks nice.

Size in mm.
Pieces are  rectangles, make sure that you cut the pieces  with 90 degrees corners, otherwise you will destroy the pattern.
                 69,33mm x 5,67mm.
                 28,35 mm. x5,67mm.
                 11,34 mm x 5,67mm.
                 square
                 11,34 mm x 11,34 mm.
                 and triangles
                17,01 mm. x 12,06 mm.
The triangles are made from a square. The total size of one part is 76,2 mm. x 76,2 mm.

Tools used:

This sciccor is useful for miter cutting.

This is a paper Cutter and it doesn't only slice paper. You can also use it for slicing veneer.

Here you see the cutter wheel. This can be moved from right to left by hand.

The cutter stationary:  In order to get each time the same size of the parts, I used a sliding part as a stopper.
This stopper can be adjusted to each dimension. Because the stopper is positioned on the stationary  base, I have made some fixed points on the stationary base, in order to keep the cutter in exact position to the stopper . The stopper can slide to adjust the requested dimension, but should always move parallel to the cutting line, in order to keep the parts rectangular.

On the right I placed two strips, to assure that the stopper moves parallel to the cutting line.. Between those two strips the stopper can move.It stays in position thanks to a screw and wing nut.

The winged nut (I wonder if it's correct English) is put on the screw. Now you can fix the sliding part.

Now you put the paper cutter on the stationary base.

Adjust the caliper.

Now you can place the sliding part on the correct size.

Place the veneer against the stopper.

Here is the cut piece of veneer. It's just for demonstration.

Now you only have to put the veneer in and cut a lot of pieces. Warning: Don't cut to much pieces in front because due to cutting tolerances, you may want to adjust the stopper a little bit to make sure that the total pattern fits. When you work 1:12 then  1mm  is a lot. It is impossible to cut pieces within 0.1 mm but you have to try to achieve this. It will complete the pattern the most.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask .
I can give the formula in mathematics to find the dimensions of the parts belonging to the square. But it is a nice puzzle to solve by your selves. Good luck.

Marble the stair.

Before I can marble I must ensure that the wood does not look distorted. I've to put a lot of primer on the wood and a lot of sanding. So that's what I've done the last week.

That takes a lot of time. I have to put new primer on the wood and then it must dry and then sand it again. It goes on and on. But I want the wood to look like marble and that looks neat.

I'm also preparing for our holiday. We leave for our holiday over two weeks. We're going to Portugal for the last time. We have inherited a house. It's put into our name so now we can sell it. So I hope the buyers are still interested.

Today I received the book I did order. I'm still trying to get a good picture of the Victorian area. So I have something to read during my holiday.
