Mattress for my Victorian bed.

Cotton 14x33 cm.

I found this mattress at http://schifka.vuodatus.net

Fold the longest site in two.

Then sew it together leaving a gap at the small site. You need a gap so that you can turn it inside out later on.
First you have to put the seam down and go to the edge. Now you sew the edge over 1,5 cm.. As shown on the next picture.

At the right edge you can see how to do that.

When your sure that everything is correct you cut the edges.
Turn inside down and make a small hem all around the mattress.

Now you can stuff the mattress.

Close the gap by hand.

I try to make a Victorian bed ruffle, bedskirt.

White cotton 11 x 16 cm.

A colored cotton strip 100 cm long and 4 cm  wide.

Make a hem at the underside first. Iron the hem.

Stitch a line with the largest stitch of your sewing machine, at mine it's 5. Tie a knot at the end.

Then pull the thread and measure the strip. It has to fit around the white cotton. Now you have to wrinkle  till the length of 50 cm. Tie a knot agagin.

Divide the wrinkles. Now you cab string it on the white cotton.

The final step. Sew it to the white cotton.
Iron the bed ruffle  and then you're finished. Yes and then I realized that it didn't fit. The bed has four standing tubes. :-(

Now I have to start again. I'm gonna try to make a new band an sew that on an elastic band. I hope that this will work.Is there anybody who has tips. They're very welcome.

Victorian bed ruffle selfmade

Today I started to make a bed skirt for my Victorian bed. I'm halfway with it.
I was getting a little tired so I stopped and then we got a pleasant unexpected visitor today. An old schoolfriend of my husband visited us. That was very nice and they could get old memories back.
So I try to get it ready for tomorrow.
Then I'll place pictures and the way I made the skirt.
It's not very specular but I want to make clear how I made the bedding from the beginning till the end.

Victorian bed.

For the interior I've used the following book:
Victorian House Style an architectural and interior design source book. The writer is Linda Osband.
When I'm speaking about: in this book then refer to Victorian House Style.

All of my designs are 1:12 cm. To achieve this I start to measure all the dimensions of the desired object.
When I got all my measurements I'm going to divide them all by twelve. This will result in a representation from the object in scale 1:12. For instance a football: I'll measure the diameter of the ball. This is, for instance, 36 cm. Divide this by twelve and you will have the exact diameter for your football in 1:12 scale.
In this example I'm talking about CM because I live in the Netherlands and we metric instead of English.
So this means 1 cm. = 0,39 inch. For the conversion you should check: www.manuelsweb.com/in.cm.htm

In this book I saw a lovely bed and I thought this is the one for my doll house.
So I bought brass tubes, some Gift card decoration sticker and beads and started to create the bed on a 1:12 scale.

Start cutting the brass tubes:
4 times brass tube 0,2 cm. Ø length 7,5 cm.
4 times brass tube 0,2 cm. Ø length 15 cm.
3 time brass tube 0,2 cm. Ø length 10 cm.
3 times brass tube 0,15 cm. Ø length 10 cm.
1 time brass tube 0,15 cm. Ø length 11 cm.
4 times brass tube 0,15 cm. Ø length 8 cm.
4 times brass tube 0,15 cm. Ø length 5,5 cm.
14 times brass tube 0,1 cm. Ø length 4,2 cm.

Solder all the tubes together like the bed frame in the picture.

4 beads 0,3 cm. Ø
4 beads 0,2 cm. Ø
4 beads 0,4 cm. long
8 needles

Put a needle inside the beads as shown on the picture and glue 4 times 0,3 cm. Ø at the end of the legs of the bed. That's possible because the brass tube is hollow. At the top you put a needle through the 0,4 cm. long bead and the 0,2 cm. Ø and glue on the top of the bed.

For my bed decoration I've used the stickers like this: Strip of the glue protecting sides ofboth and put the sticky sides together. This way you'll form a non sticky decoration.

Because the solder tin and sticker are visible, I've painted the bed with brass paint from Humbol Enamel color-code Met 54.

I wish you good luck and joy by making this bed.
Do you have any questions don't hesitate to ask. I love to help you out.

Start building the Garfield Doll house.

We started building the Garfield doll house. It's taped so we can take it apart.

The builders aren't allowed to enter the house with their boots on.

Now we're going to label everything and strip the house all down. It's easier to decorate the walls when they're flat on the table.

The pattern for the parquet floor in the living is almost ready. Then I can choose the veneer I want to use for the floor. Cut the veneer in small parts and glue it on the ivory board. When the floor is ready I can put it into the living room. It will take some time before that's ready.
